Marine Zinc Anode for Buried Pipeline

Category

About product

Zinc anode for buried pipelines in marine applications, specifically for oil pipelines, is crucial for corrosion protection. These specialized anodes are designed to combat the corrosive effects of seawater and other marine environments, ensuring the integrity and longevity of the buried pipeline. By sacrificially corroding themselves, the zinc anode diverts corrosive forces away from the pipeline, effectively preventing corrosion damage. This reliable corrosion protection solution is essential for maintaining the safety and efficiency of oil pipelines in marine settings. Choose high-quality zinc anodes to safeguard your buried oil pipeline, mitigating the risks associated with corrosion and ensuring its optimal performance in challenging marine conditions.

Marine Sacrificial Zinc Anode for Buried Pipeline

The composition of marine zinc pipeline anode is carefully formulated to provide effective corrosion protection. It consists of various chemical elements, including aluminum (Al) and cadmium (Cd), along with impurity elements such as zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), and silicon (Si).

In terms of the primary elements, aluminum is typically present in a range of 0.3% to 0.6%, while cadmium is found in smaller amounts, ranging from 0.05% to 0.12%. These elements play a crucial role in enhancing the anode’s corrosion resistance and sacrificial properties.

Furthermore, the pipeline anode may contain trace amounts of impurity elements. Zinc, being the primary component, is naturally present. To maintain the anode’s purity, strict limits are set for impurity elements. The content of zinc impurities, such as iron, copper, lead, and silicon, is carefully controlled to be ≤0.005%, ≤0.005%, ≤0.006%, and ≤0.125%, respectively.

The remaining content is primarily zinc, forming the bulk of the anode material. This high zinc content ensures the anode’s effectiveness in sacrificially corroding to protect the buried pipeline from corrosion damage.

Risks of Submarine Oil Pipelines Without Zinc Anode

Without the use of sacrificial zinc anodes for cathodic protection in submarine oil pipelines, several risks and challenges can arise:

  • Pressure Integrity Concerns: Corrosion-induced damage weakens the pressure integrity of the submarine oil pipeline. The absence of zinc anodes exacerbates the risk of leaks or ruptures, especially in areas with higher fluid pressure or temperature variations. Maintaining pressure integrity is crucial for the safe and efficient transportation of oil through the pipeline.
  • Internal Corrosion Risks: The absence of zinc anodes not only affects the external surface of the pipeline but also increases the likelihood of internal corrosion. Corrosion products or deposits can accumulate within the pipeline, leading to reduced flow capacity, increased friction, and potential blockages. Internal corrosion can also contribute to the degradation of the pipeline’s mechanical properties over time.
  • Limited Inspection Capabilities: Corrosion detection and monitoring become more challenging without the protection of zinc anodes. The absence of a marine sacrificial anode system makes it difficult to accurately assess the extent and location of corrosion along the pipeline. This limitation hampers proactive maintenance and integrity management practices, increasing the risk of undetected corrosion-related issues.
